The Hague (Netherlands), Sept 30 - Cees Slinger (jazz pianist) has died yesterday of heart problems at the age of 77.

As part of the DSU Year of Delta Heritage, the ninth annual Peavine Awards will celebrate excellence in the Delta Blues on October 4. According to historian Steve LaVere, founder of the Peavines, "this year's awards will honor three Delta Bluesmen who created a unique Blues sound: John Lee Hooker, Earl Hooker, and Tony Hollins." The celebration will be at the Grapeland Grill on Highway 61 in Cleveland, starting at 7:30 and featuring live Blues by Bill "Howlin' Madd" Perry and his Blues Band along with the awards ceremony itself. South African jazz singer Sathima Bea Benjamin celebrates the reissue of A Morning in Paris--her 1963 masterpiece recorded with Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, and Abdullah Ibrahim as pianists--as well as her 71st birthday, with a performance at Sweet Rhythm on Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Veritas's Annual Evening with Friends of Charlie Parker brings together the most respected names in music to celebrate the memory of Charlie "Bird" Parker. The event was the inspiration of the late Doris Parker, and fellow Veritas Foundation members the late Max Roach, the late Milt Jackson and their friend the late Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Heath and Congressman Charles B.
